About Me

Dehan dihum! Lizzie Pelz here! I also go by the name of Mama. I am serving as a Community Health Peace Corps Volunteer in Ethiopia from December 2012 to December 2014, during which I am primarily focusing on HIV Prevention and Education. I live in a borderline town/ city called Maichew in the mountainous southern zone of the mystifying Tigray province. I'm originally from Houston, TX, but also refer to Austin as one of my homes. I attended the University of Houston where I earned a B.A. in Anthropology in 2010.

There's no telling you I like long walks on the beach here, but instead......

I like long hikes in the hillsides and mountains with trails of 20ft cacti.

I like having my two shay bunna breaks each day with tiny cups of the freshest coffee available on this earth.

I like sitting in the bamboo juice bets sipping on avocado grenadine.

I like indulging in Tigray cuisine while still managing to lose weight.

I like on occasion sipping on honey wine.

I like conversing in Tigrigna, which sounds like the cookie monster's version of Arabic.

........ and etc.

Lizzie a.k.a. Mama

  1. I enjoy your blog a great deal. I'm a RPCV, Botswana, 1989 - one of my regrets in life is that I didn't go to Ethiopia on the way back to the US; however, 1992 wasn't probably the best time to visit Ethiopia. Enjoy the time you have to think and look at the stars!

    1. No problem, there will be more links in the future. Now is a good time to visit Ethiopia. It's never too late.
